Who’s who…
Welcome to my wee ceramics and pottery gallery and shop, where every piece tells a unique story, crafted with love and care.
My name is Elaine, and I work from my home studio in the beautiful Borders village of Midlem.
Way back… I qualified with a BA(Hons) in Jewellery Design at Middlesex Poly. Later, I became a teacher of Art and Design and worked in Primary and Secondary Education, then specialised in Support for Learning and led a fabulous team until I retired in 2025, to realise my dream of becoming a full time potter. And here we are…
Working with clay is a conversation. I guide it, but I also listen. The wheel slows me down, allowing the form to emerge in its own time.
In the glaze, I look for movement — ocean blues drifting into white, speckles of light, the subtle unpredictability that makes each piece entirely its own. My favourite palette - ‘summer mist’ grew from watching the light and quiet stillness of the landscape.
I believe that pottery holds feeling. When someone picks up a piece and something in them softens, or they recognise a memory in its colours, that’s the moment I value most. Many of my customers describe that a piece “speaks” to them — and I think that’s true. Clay remembers touch, intention, and the places that inspired it.
Alongside my functional work, I create personalised pieces and memorial urns. These are made with deep care and quiet attention, honouring the stories, places, and loved ones they represent. It is a privilege to craft objects that hold meaning far beyond their form.
Every item that leaves my studio is a one-of-a-kind piece of the landscape that raised it — shaped by hand, guided by light, and finished with the gentle unpredictability of fire.
My hope is that when someone brings a piece home, it brings with it a sense of calm, connection, and presence.
